Skiller Whale is bringing together a community of practice (COP) for people working in technology teams, who have responsibility for developer skills in the context of developer enablement and developer experience.
Manifesto
Our Core Convictions
A ‘Brain Trust’ for the Lone Wolf
If you are the one responsible for engineering strategic upskilling, continuous learning, or technical onboarding, you may be working in isolation. This CoP is your space to find mentors, share what’s worked, and crowdsource solutions to skill stagnation.
Benchmarking Across Industries
Established challenger banks, scaling startups, and large enterprises are all competing for the same modern engineers. We bring diverse industries together so you can hear exactly how your developer skill roadmaps track against peers.
Rules of Engagement
We value marginalised people’s safety over privileged people’s comfort. We do not tolerate behaviour or speech that compromises the diversity or inclusivity of this community. We also believe it is important for everyone to feel able to speak freely about their context and concerns.
In short: no jerks, and the Chatham House Rule.
What we aim to provide
Online Coffee Chats
(Tuesdays at 10am UK time)
In a post-COVID world, we know it’s important that this COP reaches people who work from home, so this coffee chat will always be online (with options for different timezones to be added when required). This has the added benefit of connecting you to people you may not encounter at meet ups because they are based in different geographies.
In-Person Connection Points
(every other month)
We gather over in-person social experiences — breakfasts, dinners, and closed-door roundtables on a regular basis. Initially, these will be in London, but we will host in other locations depending on demand.
Curated Symposiums
(at least once per year)
We will organise symposiums and small events with experts in the topics pertinent to this COP
Slack Group Brain Trust
(continuous)
A space will be launching as the COP grows to serve as an asynchronous conversation space for sharing resources, research and seeking peer advice.
