ABOUT US

We’re hooked on learning, teaching, and squeezing every bit of progress out of small-group magic.

Each of us, from seasoned software architects to dev mentors, brings a unique spark: obsessing over developer workflows, experimenting with new tech stacks, obsessing over micro-feedback loops, tailoring sessions to your team’s context.

Skiller Whale was created to be something very different:

We believe that people learn best from people, from doing,  from making mistakes, from feedback and from questioning.

We believe that time can be hugely cut down by mimicking experiential learning in intensive micro-workshops led by an expert practitioner.

Learning that is core to how an engineering team operates, not a fringe add-on or an after-thought.

Learning that aligns with team-level priorities and changes what the team is capable of.

And we’re called Skiller Whale because…well, our love of puns knows no bounds.

Since 2021, we've helped tech teams grow with confidence and clarity.

What’s important to us
(and what’s not)

We strive to be intelligent, playful learners, like our Orca, Ada (yes, we love a Lovelace reference).

These principles define who we are, not only as a company providing a product, but also as a group of people working together.

Intelligence

We think deeply about our product. We don’t think it’s too much to expect that every single hour of learning should have at least one moment where you lean back and say “aha!’ mind. blown.”

We value deep thinking and clever solutions in our team, and we would often choose smarts over experience.

Playfulness

Our product's effectiveness is due in part to the fact that it's fun. We emphasise the enjoyability of learning new concepts. We think it’s important to create a human environment in which learners feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.

And, as a team, we play games during lunch and compete to make the best whale puns.

Constant learners

As a learning company, we lead from the front. This means we all learn new technologies on a regular basis.

It’s also important to us that we learn from mistakes and trends, so we’re able to quickly adapt to our customers’ changing needs.

Our Culture

We believe that diversity makes us stronger and are dedicated to building a company that represents society as a whole. We value marginalised people’s safety over privileged people’s comfort.

We value honest and open communication, and we believe that in order to foster an environment that enables this, it’s important that our team feel included, recognised and like they can bring their full selves to work.
